Fresh Ginger with Leaves and Stems
Fresh ginger grown at DNS Farm on Salt Spring Island, harvested with its leaves and stems attached. The rhizome has a bright, aromatic flavour and works well in tea, stir-fries, baking, marinades, and homemade preserves.
The leaves and tender shoots are edible and can add a gentle aroma to soups, rice dishes, or tea. You can also wrap food in the leaves while cooking. Finely chop tender stalks; tougher pieces can be used to flavour a dish and removed before serving.
Storage for Rhizomes: For fridge storage, separate the rhizome from the leaves and stems, then keep it unpeeled in a sealed bag or airtight container in the crisper drawer. For longer storage, freeze the rhizome whole or in pieces in a freezer bag. You can grate it straight from frozen.
Sold only on Salt Spring Island and Vancouver Island. Pick up only.
